What is HerbShare?
HerbShare is a form of Community Supported Herbalism. It is a membership program designed to make the art of herbalism part of daily living, support local herb growers, and increase access to healthy foods and herbs in general. The idea is to connect herbal education, students, clients, local herb growers, and sustainably-minded farmers while increasing access to the plants and supplies needed to create a home apothecary or natural medicine chest.

Benefits
Apothecary Buying Club
The APB is designed to help people get the herbs they need. The APB does this by wild crafting or growing herbs locally, providing remedies made by volunteers at the Trillium Center, and access to non-local herbs, herbal products, and apothecary supplies at bulk prices. Orders of non-local herbs and supplies will be made several times of year. We offer local hand-made remedies along with wholesale costs of bulk herbs and spices. We also offer limited products from Herbalist & Alchemist, the company that sells David Winston’s formulas. Herbs from BLD farm are quickly dried in a low temperature solar dehydrator to ensure that both color and other herbal qualities are retained.
Herb of the Month
Each month HerbShare members will receive a hand-made remedy featuring the Herb of the Month and a profile of the herb that includes common and scientific names, region found, description, illustrations or pictures of the plant, and the how, when and why to use the herb.
Consultation
A consultation includes a full assessment of tissue states and constitution in Traditional Western Herbalism. Herbalism is a whole foods, whole medicine approach to restoring and healing the spirit, mind, or body. In Vitalist traditions, the spark that brings life and radiance to the body is called the vital force. Traditional Western herbalism inspires radiant health by supporting the vital force with herbs that match each person’s individual energetic and physical constitution. Traditional herbalism does not diagnose or treat diseases, symptoms, or health conditions. Instead, it nourishes and heals by matching plants to individuals. Tissue states are evaluated through a survey to match plants to each person to restore balance and vitality to those tissues. To optimize safety, drug interactions and contraindications are researched.
Personalized Herbal Remedy
Herbal remedies are made for each individual based on the herbal consultation. Herbs treat a whole person rather than a diagnosis or medical condition. In this way, herbs can be gentle and nourishing. When herbs are used inappropriately they can cause harm, so it’s essential to consult an herbalist to make sure herbs support your constitution and promote balance.
Work or Trade
To improve access to herbs to those who don’t have an abundance of money we offer work and trade opportunities. Work hours can include working at the botanical sanctuary, apothecary, gardens, or completing computer tasks according to your skills and abilities. Trade will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Trade items often accepted are processed or recently wild crafted herbs, plants for the sanctuary, or supplies for the apothecary. If you need help and can’t do any of these things, contact us anyway.
